Haal Khata – a Hand woven Bengal Cotton saree, soft and elegant with woven Red thread border. We imagined the saree as the canvas to paint and capture the essence of Bengali New Year or ‘Naboborsho’ ! Month of April witnesses Bengali New Year that heralds fresh beginnings ! An auspicious occassion, celebrated in rural and urban Bengal. For Business, it marks the beginning of new Accounting, symbolized by starting a new Ledger book or ‘Haal Khata’ ! The saree there fore has ‘Haal Khata’ painted on the pallu. The day begins with a puja by the business community, hence auspicious symbols, ‘Bel pata’ or the three leaves of wood apple tree, ‘Kosha – Kushi’, ‘Mangal Kalas’ been painted on the pallu! Boisakh means officially summer has commenced! GulMohar / Krishna chura, dazzle us with the brilliance of its crimson red colour, painted on the body of the saree! Through the paintings and using the saree as a canvas, we have celebrated the essence and spirit of ‘Poila Boisakh’ – the first day of the month of Boisakh!
