Sui Dhaga
As a student in the 80s, in a Convent school in Calcutta, we were taught needle work. We had classes twice a week and also sat for needle work exam along with the main subjects. My love for needle and thread has been inculcated by my teachers right from a very young age. And it is all but a foregone conclusion, that I would love to create a collection of embroidered sarees!
Certain regions and states of India, have their own particular embroidery form – like Kasuti, Lambani, Sozni, Aari, Tilla, Sujni, Sindhi Embroidery, Chikan kari and much more. Some of them have their GI tag too. While I have used in my collection most of these embroidery forms, I have also tried to experiment and create designs using more common and familiar stitches like- Stem, Chain, Satin, Short & Long Stitches, Herringbone, French knot, short Running stitches and much more.
